Rock Valley Splits at December Classic
Rock Valley hosted its 1st annual December Classic last Friday and Saturday bringing in 3 NJCAA DII programs... The tournament hosted Ancilla College (IN), Bryant & Stratton College (WI), and Little Priest Tribal College (NE)... Friday, the Golden Eagles found themselves in a battle with Ancilla College heading into halftime down 10... RVC fought back to tie the game on a Malique Ross (Oswego, IL) 3-point shot with under 3 seconds to play... In overtime, the Golden Eagles lead by 2 points after a DeMari Davis (Indianapolis, IN) free throw... With just over 2 seconds left to play in overtime, the Chargers inbounded the ball under their own basket and hit a game winning three pointer, handing the Golden Eagles their third straight loss... RVC was led by a career-high from Ross with 27 points, hitting 5 three pointers... In the final game of the December Classic, the Golden Eagles faced off against NJCAA DII Little Priest Tribal College, who were coming off a loss Friday night against Bryant & Stratton College... The first half was all Rock Valley, who committed 0 turnovers in the half and held a 45-27 lead... LPTC stayed with Rock Valley in the second half but it wasn't enough to cover the 18-point halftime deficit... Rock Valley College came away with a 90-70 win, moving them to 7-4 overall... RVC had balanced scoring with four players in double figures... Alec Pena (Rockton, IL) finished with 23 points, Dalton Menke (Winnebago, IL) finished 6-10 from the field, 5 of them coming from beyond the arc with 17 points... Ross finished with 14 points... Jace Kitchen (DeKalb, IL) continued to thrive in his 6th man role, adding 15 points... The most impressive stat of the night came from the Golden Eagles big man DeMari Davis (Indianapolis, IN) who finished with 9 points and 19 rebounds, 10 which came on the offensive glass... Davis single-handedly had more offensive rebounds individually than LPTC did as a team.

Rock Valley is an NJCAA Division III member of the North Central Community College Conference (N4C)… RVC Men's Basketball entered the 2016-2017 season ranked #1 in the NJCAA DIII Preseason Poll… Rock Valley, with a record of 7-4, will be traveling to Grayslake, IL for a game against College of Lake County... The last time Rock Valley played against the Lancers they came away with a 94-60 win at home last season... The Golden Eagles were led by 17 points and 10 rebounds from NJCAA DIII All-American Elijah Williams... Mo Jackson also added 16 points... The Golden Eagles were hot all night from the field, shooting 56.7% from the field while holding CLC to 35% FG overall.

College of Lake County is an NJCAA DII member located in Grayslake, IL... Head coach of the Lancers in his fifth season is Chuck Ramsey... In each of the last 3 seasons, CLC finished just 1 game out of first place in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference... This season,  the Lancers have gotten off to a 2-7 start defeating Harper College and Wilbur Wright College... College of Lake County is led by last week's Region IV player of the week, sophomore Ethan Sage, who averages 16.9 points and 7.9 rebounds.
