W-Basketball: RVC knocks off Harper on the road to open conference season

The Rock Valley College women's basketball team traveled to Palatine, Illinois on Wednesday to play Harper College.  After 40 minutes of action the Golden Eagles were awarded the victory by a score of 80-50.

After a sluggish start RVC took a 33-28 lead into halftime.  However, during the third quarter Rock Valley would heat up on both ends scoring 26 points and holding the Hawks to just 10 points in the quarter to secure control of the game.  RVC outscored Harper again in fourth (21-12) to complete their conference opening win.

The Golden Eagles were led by Brianna Davis (23 points, 6 assists) and Jaycee Cleaver (17 points including 5 three-point field goals). Auri Hampton had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Asia Jones filled up the box score with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals as Rock Valley, the #4 ranked team in NJCAA DIII, improves to 12-5 (1-0 N4C) on the season.  Harper was led by Jackie Stroud's 16 points as they fall to 4-11 (0-1 N4C) on the season.

"We defended well all night, especially in the second half, "head coach Misty Opat stated. "I'm proud of our girls for getting off to a good start in the N4C conference season."

The Golden Eagles travel to Milwaukee to face the Stormers on Saturday as part of a double-header.  The women play the noon game while the men are scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 PM at Alverno College in Milwaukee.
