Harper College Notes
Harper College is an NJCAA DIII member of the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) located in Palatine, IL… Jenny Turpel is in her third season as the head coach of the Hawks. Under the direction of Turpel, the team took another big step forward in the 2014-15 season, tripling its win total from the previous year. When Rock Valley played Harper College back on the 6th of January they received their first conference win of the season with a score of 80-50. After a sluggish start RVC took a 33-28 lead into halftime.  However, during the third quarter Rock Valley would heat up on both ends scoring 26 points and holding the Hawks to just 10 points in the quarter to secure control of the game.  RVC outscored Harper again in fourth (21-12) to complete their conference opening win. The Golden Eagles were led by Brianna Davis (23 points, 6 assists) and Jaycee Cleaver (17 points including 5 three-point field goals). Auri Hampton had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Asia Jonesfilled up the box score with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals in this game.

Rock Valley is an NJCAA Division III member of the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) The Golden Eagles are 16-6 on the season... RVC women's basketball is in a "Golden Age" of their program having won 3 of the last 4 NJCAA D3 national championships (2012, 2013, 2015) and earning national runner-up in 2014. The Rock Valley College women's basketball team are playing like defending national champions, and are coming off a solid road win against College of DuPage on Saturday 63-38. "We knew it would be a process with our young team," head coach Misty Opat said. "And the process is far from over.  We are having great practices and our freshman have really grown up before our eyes. However, we need to maintain this sense of urgency throughout the second half of the conference season so we can be in the best position possible come region tournament time." The Golden Eagles were led by Tierra McGowan and Jaycee Cleaver who both posted double-doubles.  McGowan scored a game-high 18 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.  Cleaver scored 15 points which grabbing a game and career high 11 rebounds.  Asia Jones chipped in with 10 points.

-The Golden Eagles are led by Brianna Davis who is averaging (17.0 PPG). Brianna ranks 10th in the country with 356 total points scored for the season, 6th in the country in 3PT field goal percentage at 41.8%, and 22nd in the country with 73 assist for the year. Brianna was voted to the 2015 All-National Tournament team.
-Tierra McGowan is second in scoring on the team (10.2 PPG) and leads RVC in rebounding at (10.0) and is ranked 11th in the country at 211 total rebounds. Tierra is coming of a Region 4 player of the week honors where she averaged a double-double in points and rebounds to go along with averaging 5 blocks a game that week.
-Jaycee Cleaver is third in scoring for the Golden Eagles at (9.5 PPG) and is ranked 2nd in the country for 3PT field goal percentage shooting a red hot 47.7%

(Misty Opat - RVC Athletics)

Misty Opat is in her 7th year as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Rock Valley College. Opat has established her program as one of the best in the history of the NJCAA. Her program has won three NJCAA DIII National Championships (2012, 2013, 2015) in the past four seasons and finished in National Runner-Up in 2014. Entering this season, Opat has compiled an overall record of 151-47 (.763). She was named Spalding NJCAA DIII National Coach of the Year in 2015, has been named the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year four times, the Region IV Coach of the Year four times, the District 2 Coach of the Year four times, and the Coach of the NJCAA DIII National Tournament three times. Prior to RVC, Opat accumulated seven years of NCAA Division I coaching experience. From 1999-2002 she served as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she also served as the Recruiting Coordinator. In 2000 her UIC recruiting class was ranked 19th in the country for NCAA Division I. Opat also held assistant coaching positions at Fresno State University (1998-99) and the University of Kansas (1995-1998) where in both cases she was also heavily involved in recruiting and scouting. Opat earned an Associate of Science degree from Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas, where she was a two-year team captain in basketball and was named to the all-conference and all-region teams in both seasons. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, where she earned NAIA All-American honors as a player. Opat then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
