W-Basketball: Defending National Champs playing at a high level, knock off DuPage on the road

The Rock Valley College women's basketball team are playing like defending national champions.  The Golden Eagles, who are in a Golden Age for women's basketball, winning 3 of the last 4 national championships and earning national runner-up in the other year, defeated College of DuPage on Saturday 63-38.

The win improves RVC to 16-6 including 4 consecutive wins and an N4C conference record of 5-1.  COD falls to 8-10 (1-4 N4C).

"We knew it would be a process with our young team," head coach Misty Opat said. "And the process is far from over.  We are having great practices and our freshman have really grown up before our eyes. However, we need to maintain this sense of urgency throughout the second half of the conference season so we can be in the best position possible come region tournament time."

The Golden Eagles were led by Tierra McGowan and Jaycee Cleaver who both posted double-doubles.  McGowan scored a game-high 18 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.  Cleaver scored 15 points which grabbing a game and career high 11 rebounds.  Asia Jones chipped in with 10 points.

RVC is dormant on Wednesday but will play at home on Saturday in the Rumble in the Rock event.  The women are scheduled to tip-off at 4:00 PM against Harper College in the PEC on the campus of Rock Valley College.
