Frank Horvat enters his fourth year as the Head Men's Soccer coach at Rock Valley College.
The 2016 season overall season record of 9-6-2 had another strong finish. With the return of 7 players from last years team and a solid group of incoming freshmen, this team looks poised to make a run at the Region IV championship this year.
Â
In his first season resurrecting the men's soccer program at RVC, Horvat led the Golden Eagles to the District Championship game. Along the way, RVC achieved an 8-11-2 record. Horvat, known for his ability to develop players, as well as his tactical coaching, had his program playing their best soccer come tournament time, defeating the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the Region IV Tournament to secure the title and compete for a chance to go to the National Tournament.Â
Horvat has over 30 years of experience coaching soccer in the Rockford area. For the last 8 years, he has worked as the Director of Coaching at Rock Run Soccer Club where his responsibilities included player development, recruitment of players and coaches, coaching development, and scheduling.
He spent 12 years (1993-2005) as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Northern Illinois University where his teams won two Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles (1997 and 1998).
Prior to that, Horvat was the Head Boys and Girls Soccer Coach at Boylan High School for seven years. As the boys coach (1986-1992) he compiled a 109-50-14 record, won seven Illinois High School Association (IHSA) regional titles, and made four appearances in the IHSA Sweet 16. As the girls coach (1987-1992) his teams went 109-22-10 and advanced to the IHSA Elite 8 in each of his six seasons. For both sports combined over his eight years, Horvat was named Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year eight times and NIC-9 Coach of the Year seven times.
Horvat's coaching career began while he was a student at Rockford College. He coached for the first club program in the area, Rockford United, and after graduating became an assistant coach for Rockford College.
