Rock Valley Golden Eagles Complete Week With a Commanding WinĀ

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Rock Valley College Women's Soccer team capped off a competitive week with a draw and a dominant win, finishing 1-0-1 over two matches.Ā

On Wednesday, the Golden Eagles traveled to College of DuPage to face the Chaparrals in a tightly contested matchup that ended in a 0-0 draw. DuPage started the first half on the front foot with two early shots on goal before Rock Valley began to settle into rhythm. COD goalkeeper Elizabeth Fried was the difference maker, producing multiple crucial saves — including a reaction stop that pushed the ball onto the crossbar and a double save off the rebound.Ā

The Golden Eagles controlled much of the second half, maintaining pressure in the DuPage half, but the Chaparrals' disciplined midfield and defense limited clear chances. Fried continued her strong performance, denying several dangerous looks to preserve the scoreless draw. The result moved DuPage to 8-2-2 on the season, while Rock Valley stood at 14-1-1.Ā

Rock Valley returned home Saturday to host Milwaukee Area Technical College and responded in emphatic fashion with a 7-1 victory. The Golden Eagles set the tone immediately, stringing together an 18-pass sequence that nearly produced a goal in the opening seconds.Ā

RVC opened the scoring in the first half after a quick counterattack from a MATC free kick. Forward Hailey Westphal was brought down in the box, but the referee played advantage, allowing freshman forward Johanna Hawley to finish from the edge of the area. Moments later, the duo combined again as Hawley delivered a corner to the back post, where Westphal headed home the second goal.Ā

Head Coach Kevan Watkins emphasized the importance of extending the lead after halftime, and his team responded quickly. Early in the second half, Rock Valley's midfield switched play to Hawley, who drove inside and fired a long-range strike from 30 yards out to make it 3-0. Just a minute later, a corner from Izze Fritz found Kassandra Jimenez, who nudged the ball over the line for a fourth goal.Ā

MATC pulled one back through Katlyn Haeft, whose free kick struck the far post and bounced in, but Rock Valley continued to attack relentlessly. Natalie Mandera converted a penalty after being fouled in the box to make it 5-1. Minutes later, Kacey White and Jimenez combined to set up Emilia Arias, who chipped the goalkeeper for RVC's sixth. Arias then turned provider, finding White, who unleashed a 30-yard strike for her first collegiate goal to complete the 7-1 victory.Ā

The Golden Eagles return to Region IV action Wednesday evening, hosting NJCAA Division II No. 17 South Suburban College at Mercyhealth Sportscore 2 – Wedgbury Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.Ā
