Men's Soccer - Golden Eagles Stumble Against IL Valley

MATCH REPORTĀ 

Rock Valley lost a tough match Sunday afternoon, despite controlling most of the battle. The Golden Eagles were held scoreless against region foe Illinois Valley and drops to 5 and 5 on the year. Ā 

Despite the loss RVC controlled in all facets of the match. The Golden Eagles controlled 60.6% of the possession, adding 16 shots which were more than double the 7 shots IL Valley were able to attempt. Rock Valley completed 320 of their 407 passes at 79%, compared to IVC only completing 119 of their 193 passes for 62%. The lack of pressure on the goal for IL Valley left them unfazed as they were able to convert on 2 of their 4 shots on goal. The Golden Eagles again had more shots on goal than IL Valley, however it did not matter as they were unable to convert on any of their 6 shots on goal. Ā 

First HalfĀ 

The first half was uneventful for both teams as neither was able to score and no cards were handed out. This was a change of pace from RVC's Friday night match against defending national champion Prairie State. IL Valley was only able to muster one shot in the first half compared to the 6 posted by Rock Valley. However, the attempts were not enough as the score was 0-0 after the first half of play.Ā 

Second HalfĀ 

The second half started off with a bang for Illinois Valley who struck quickly in the 46th minute with a goal from Jasiel Watson. The quick goal stunned the Golden Eagles and left the team with their back against the wall early in the half. The Golden Eagles again controlled the 2nd half much like the first, however it did not matter as IVC added a second goal in the 58th minute by Tyler Marconi, assisted by Jonathan Cortez. RVC answered with multiple shots but was not able to find the back of the net. The rest of the match was a stalemate and ended 2-0 in favor of IVC.Ā

Next Up
The Golden Eagles fell to 5-5 overall and 4-4 in region 4 play. Illinois Valley improved to 7-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in region 4 play. The Golden Eagles will look to get back in the win column Tuesday (Sep. 26) when they travel to Joliet Junior College, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 pm cst. Ā Ā Ā  Ā
