Madison, WI - Rock Valley Women's Soccer scored in the 90th minute to capture the first Region IV title in only their second season in NJCAA DII. It was a physical game with several shouts for possible penalty kicks in both halves. South Suburban goalkeeper came up big pushing
Anika Elgin wide on a breakaway early in the game. The next biggest chance in the first half came off a free kick on the edge of the box for RVC that
Gisselle Farias hit of the inside of the post.
Sara Holguin drew level with South Suburban by connecting on an
Emma Ambrose free kick after coming off the South Suburban goalkeeper. Holguin's goal was her 8th goal of the season.
Naitzy Garcia made several good saves including one on the line to keep the scoreline at 1-1. The end of the game was a flurry of activity as the Golden Eagles pushed for the winning goal. In the 90th minute
Emma Ambrose (16 assists on the season) stood over a free kick from distance and picked out
Anika Elgin in the box that knocked down a header into the path of
Abigail Carlson who slotted the ball back across the goal for the game winner. The goal was Carlson's second game winner of the season with her first coming against #4 Nationally ranked Joliet Junior College.
The Rock Valley College women enter their second National Championship Tournament in program history. The first in NJCAA DII with their previous appearance coming back in 2015 in NJCAA DIII. The National Tournament will be held in Toucson Arizona with the Golden Eagles taking on #2 Northwestern Mississippi Community College on Sunday November 12th at 12:30 PM (MT). The second pool game will take place on Monday November 13th at 12:30 PM (MT) vs #7 Johnson County Community College from Overland Park, KS.
NJCAA Network will be streaming the games for a $12 a game fee or a $30 day pass.
