th minute when sophomore defender
Joshua Ceniceros put home a corner kick from
Roberto Davila.
"The guys were able to set control of the game from the start," said head coach
Tim Romanello following the game, "and our first half reflected that. I'd love to see that stretch further into the match."
Black hawk would equalize in the 25
th minute, converting a penalty kick for the 1-1 tie. Three minutes later,
Max Rebori would score his first of two in the 27
th minute with a diving header following crafty play and service by
Roberto Davila and
Alejandro Montalvo. Montalvo would then extend the lead to 3-1 with a goal of his own in the 42
nd minute to close out the first half scoring. Bryan Cuevas-Tapia provided the assist.
There were plenty of chances early on in the second half for Rock Valley to further expand their lead, but the lone second half goal came in the 75
th minute on
Elijah Rufer's assist to
Max Rebori.
"We left a too many chances empty today," continued Romanello. "But, I liked our energy and our mentality this second half."
Rock Valley outshot Black Hawk 16-6.
Alyas Fritz earned the win and recorded three saves.
Rock Valley College is 3-1-0 (0-0-0 Region 4). Black Hawk drops to 1-3-0 (0-2-0). The Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday (Sep. 10) afternoon. The men will host College of Lake County, kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
