Rock Valley v McHenry: Match Preview

Through eight games, the Golden Eagles are halfway through their season. The team sits at 5-2-1 overall, but just 1-0-1 in Region IV play, and in fifth place in the playoff picture. Rock Valley has yet to play any of the team currently in the top four and currently have two games in hand of the fourth-place team (Oakton) and three games in hand of the top three (Morton, Waubonsee and Prairie State).

McHenry sits one point behind Rock Valley in a three-way tie for seventh but have played two more games than the Golden Eagles. Saturday's showdown between Rock Valley and McHenry County has huge implications. The win will see the Golden Eagles leapfrog into the top four (pending other results) with a marquee matchup against Morton on the road next Saturday night. Rock Valley will look for consistency in their attack this afternoon. Despite the 11 goals against Kennedy-King, a truer test of their finishing capability will come against a Scotts' side that has played teams extremely close of late. The Davila Bros. have paces the Rock Valley side for most of the year, but several players including Brady Williams, Alejandro Montalvo Alfredo Jimenez and Brayan Cuevas-Tapia have been extremely productive in the final third of late. A well-rounded performance today could spell trouble for the visitors.

The McHenry County Scotts on the other side will look for three points following their 4-0 dismantling of Richard J Daley midweek in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The Scotts will need all three points to climb back into the playoff picture. A win moves them into a tie with the current fourth-place team while the loss puts them off the chase another three points.
