OAK CREEK, Wisc. – It had been two weeks since the Golden Eagles were last in action, but Rock Valley had no difficulties in their N4C and Region IV opener, shutting out Milwaukee Area Technical College 13-0 Saturday afternoon.
Although the Golden Eagles dominated from the opening whistle, there was a little rust to dust off before finding the back of the net. Freshman
Johnny Leon-Horta found the back of the net in the eleventh minute from a nicely threaded ball from sophomore Axel Alamo.
Two minutes later, sophomore
Isaias Nieto converted his opportunity in front of goal to double the lead and the Golden Eagles never looked back.
Roberto Davila,
Poe Reh and Bernardo Dominguez all scored first-half goals to pace Rock Valley in the opening 45 minutes.
The Golden Eagles outshot Milwaukee 33-4 Saturday afternoon and have not beaten Milwaukee thirteen straight times.
Rock Valley would go on to score eight second-half goals, featuring a hattrick for
Poe Reh over the span of five minutes, four goals in nine minutes for the sophomore 2020-21 All-American. In total, Reh would finish with six goals, shattering the score record for goals in a match—previously held by Brock Tikson (3, 2016) and Alberto Martinez (3, 2018, twice)—and points in a match (12)—previously held by Alberto Martinez (8 in 2018).
Axel Alamo found the back of the net in the 77
th minute to go along his three assists, tying the school record for assists in a match (Alberto Martinez, 2018; Bernardo Dominguez, 2020-21).
Poe Reh would find his sixth of the match in the 79
th minute, just two minutes later. Both
Roberto Davila and Bernardo Dominguez would collect braces, converting opportunities in the 80
th and 87
th minutes.
"It's good to be back on the field," said head coach
Tim Romanello after the match. "Good win [today] for the guys where everyone is involved, where everyone gets minutes. Now it's time to get back to work for next week with two important matches for us."
Rock Valley College improves to 3-0-0 (1-0-0 Region 4). Milwaukee Area Technical drops to 0-3-0 (0-3-0). The Golden Eagles will complete their Wisconsin trip with a visit to Madison for a mid-week match on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Irwin A & Robert D Goodman Pitch (following the women's match).
