Mens soccer final vs LC

Golden Eagles Down Lake County

8/26/2021 10:35:00 AM

Box Score The Golden Eagles once again found themselves on the front foot for much of the night Wednesday versus College of Lake County. Despite the final 2-1 score line, there was no doubt as to which team controlled the game.

Lake County goalkeeper Jacob Goldstein was the talk of the night. The Lancer goalkeeper came up with 22 saves off the 32 total shots Rock Valley players combined for Wednesday evening, frustrating the RVC attack for much of the night collecting save after save.

Breakthrough for Rock Valley came in the 65th minute when Amani Amrani threaded a ball to Roberto Davila to collect his second goal of the season. Rock Valley would double their lead in the 81st minute when Omar Munoz converted his opportunity in front of goal.

The Golden Eagles amassed a shot every 4 possessions of the ball and controlled possession for 58% of the time, marking the third straight game (although abbreviated game Friday night versus Dakota County) they have won the possession battle.

"It's a crazy game," said head coach Tim Romanello following the match. "It's so unpredictable and it can be frustrating. Bottom line is we got a result. We couldn't finish our chances; [Goldstein] was fantastic tonight. Without him, [the game] could have very well been on it's way to being a very lopsided goal margin."

Despite multiple chances, Lake County proved to be clinical only on their conversion from the penalty spot by Bartosz Jakubiak in the game's 89th minute.

Rock Valley College improves to 2-0-0 (0-0-0 Region 4). College of Lake County drops to 1-2-0 (0-0-0). The Golden Eagles have a week off before returning to action next Wednesday (Sep. 1) when they open Region 4 play at home against Illinois Valley Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
