Box Score Rockford, IL -- The four-seeded Rock Valley (7-8-1) men suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of top-seeded Triton College (15-1-0) Tuesday evening in Region IV's semifinal to close the book on the side's 2019 campaign.
The Trojan's goals in consecutive minutes early in the 4th and 5th set the tone early for the home side. Even as Rock Valley would settled into the game, the few chances RVC created, they couldn't capitalize, but kept within striking distance heading into the break, down 2-0.
Triton would push their lead to 3-0 as sophomore goalkeeper Chris Perea and freshman defender
Carson Masters would collide trying to displace a cross, leaving a wide-open net for Triton to exploit.
Rock Valley would find a bit of life when freshman
Poe Reh headed a cross from sophomore
Pedro Acosta past the Trojan goalkeeper in the 73rd minute for Rock Valley's lone score.
"Despite the loss, there's a lot to be proud of this year," said head coach
Tim Romanello following the match. "There's a lot to build off of. [I'm] proud of these guys and love them like family. It's not the result we wanted, but you won't see us hang our heads."
The Golden Eagles finished the season third in the N4C, fourth in Region IV and advanced to the semifinal for the first time since 2016.
