M-Basketball: #1 Rock Valley College improves to 22-2 with win in front of 3,000+ fans

Box Score The #1 ranked team in NJCAA D3 played in front of a packed crowd in "The Nest" on Saturday night. The Rock Valley College men's basketball team played the nightcap of a day full of basketball at RVC which featured high school and college games from 10:00 AM until 9:30 PM. With attendance approaching 3,300 spectators, the Golden Eagles stormed out to a 64-24 halftime lead en route to a 106-72 victory over visiting Harper College.

Rock Valley College, who put five guys in double-figure scoring, improves to 22-2, 6-2 N4C conference.

LT Davis went 7-9 from the field including 5-7 from 3-point range in the first half to get the Golden Eagles rolling. The 2014 national champion and MVP of the national tournament finished the contest with 28 points (10-15 FG, 8-13 3PT) in 26 minutes of action. Kooper Glick came off the bench to score 19 points in 26 minutes while Dalton Payton had the best floor game for the Golden Eagles producing 13 points, 7 rebounds and a game-high 5 assists in under 22 minutes.  Elijah Williams chipped in with 11 points and a game-high 8 rebounds in under 19 minutes while Dalton Menke scored 10 points to go along with 7 rebounds.

"We defended and rebounded very well for 35 of the 40 minutes, and we shot the ball well all night," head coach Craig Doty stated. "It was a fun environment to play in. We have a lot of sophomores in our program who have dedicated two to three years of their lives to our great college and our program. I am happy, especially for them, that they got to play in front of a community who embraces their dedication and success."

Rock Valley out-rebounded Harper College (10-14, 1-7 N4C) 54-33 in the game. RVC shot 38-78 (.487) from the field including a sizzling 18-41 (.439) from behind the three-point line. The 18 three-point field goals made is the most in the Craig Doty-era at Rock Valley College over the last four seasons. The previous high for RVC, who is typicallly in the top five in 3PT made per game each season, was 17 which took place two times. On Nov. 21st, 2013 vs. UW-Baraboo in a 131-59 win, RVC went 17-38 from 3PT. On February 13th, 2015 the Golden Eagles hit 17 of 37 attempts vs. NJCAA D1 member Truman College on February 13th, 2015 in a 103-54 victory.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at home vs. conference foe Milwaukee Tech. The women tip-off the double header at 5:30 PM while the men are scheduled to tip at 7:30 PM.
