M-Basketball: #1 RVC Picks Up Road Win at Black Hawk College
Rock Valley College Men's Basketball traveled to Moline, IL to take on NJCAA DII member Black Hawk College and came away victorious - 55-50. RVC moves to 2-0 on the season, while Black Hawk falls to 3-1.
"We need to figure out how to put the ball in the basket," said Head Men's Basketball Coach
Evan Lavery. "There are many possession where we are getting the shots we want with the players we want shooting those shots, but they are not falling right now. There are other possessions where we are probably taking some questionable shots as opposed to moving the ball and getting a better look. We will figure it out. On a positive note, we defended and rebounded the basketball quite well. We will get back to work, watch the film, and iron out the wrinkles in our stuff."
The Golden Eagles took command of the game early on, taking a 12-point lead into the half. Black Hawk College opened the second half on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 5 points. Despite a back and forth second half and frigid shooting performance by RVC, the Golden Eagles managed to get several key defensive stops down the stretch. Freshman forward
DeAnte Barnes iced the contest with two free throws with 6.3 seconds remaining to secure the win for Rock Valley.
RVC was paced by
Alec Pena's 20 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore
Dalton Menke added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
