Men's Soccer: Golden Eagles take care of their home turf, defeat Triton College
The Rock Valley College men's soccer team took care of business at home on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over visiting conference rival Triton College.
The Golden Eagles improve their record to 5-3-2 (2-3-2 N4C) on the season and have won their last two games. Triton falls to 5-4 (3-4 N4C).
"This was arguably our best performance of the year," Head Coach
Frank Horvat said. "Our defense did an amazing job and forced Triton to have a tough time attacking. These are the type of games that make a coach really proud of his young men."
RVC played short handed nearly the entire second half as a Golden Eagle player received a red card. Despite being down a player, Rock Valley scored two goals and held Triton scoreless throughout the half to complete the shutout victory.
In the 69th minute of the game
David Rebollar broke through on a beautiful pass by Ricky Rubio for a goal. In the 74th minute
Alexis Galvez broke through on a well placed pass by Rebollar to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.
"We like the momentum we have built over the past two games. We hope to continue this run over the next two weeks in this very crucial part of the season," Horvat concluded.
The Golden Eagles continue their home stand with a contest vs. Madison College on Wednesday on the campus of Rock Valley College. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
